This quote beautifully captures a lesson we can all learn from flowers—about letting go of worry and simply embracing the process of growth. Think about it: flowers don’t stress about how they’ll bloom or whether they’ll be the brightest in the garden. ⁠

They do their thing, naturally reaching for the light, and in doing so, they become something extraordinary.⁠

It’s a reminder that we can find beauty in just being ourselves. Instead of getting caught up in the “how” or “what if,” we can focus on turning toward our sources of light—our passions, our goals, or the things that make us happy. ⁠

Many of us like our privacy, particularly regarding our neighbours’ inability to see over the side fence.⁠

I’ve been incorporating quite a few dogwoods into some designs over the past couple of years, but the sheer size and profusion of flowers on this one simply blew me away!⁠
⁠
So again, I was rooted to the spot, madly taking pics of this beauty whilst my kids were screaming at me not to miss the tourist bus back to the hotel, lol!!⁠🤣⁠
⁠
It was such a stunning privacy screen, too. I’d rather use this plant than the usual suspects in the Pittosporum family anytime!! I find it perfect for a dense screen that keeps prying eyes away while allowing me to enjoy the stunning flowers. ⁠
⁠
That said, though, it would require some form of regular maintenance. You wouldn’t want it to grow over on their side of the fence or push hard against the wall!⁠
⁠
So, cutting it back regularly will help immensely with that. It’s a good routine for any hedging plant as it will prevent you from getting overwhelmed and thinking that the job is too big for you.⁠

Keep it neat but still lovely and ‘full’ so you can enjoy its beauty and keep your privacy 💚⁠

We often encounter interesting plant names in gardening, but even this one surprised me when I first learnt about it. ⁠This stunning plant is named a red-hot poker!⁠
⁠
If you think about it for a minute, it does make sense. The top half is bright red, and the orange is underneath.⁠
⁠
It’s famous for its vibrant, torch-like flower spikes that bloom from the bottom up. These flowers often start as red or orange at the top and fade to yellow or cream as they mature, giving the plant its “red hot” appearance.⁠

However, many of us think about our gardens as an afterthought or a reaction to specific triggers like warmer weather or important occasions (spring, summer, and Christmas) to complete the construction during that same season.⁠

Understandably, this is the time of year when we spend more time in our gardens with friends and family or just taking a break from work!⁠

“So our Richmond courtyard is now complete. My wife typically has high standards for style and design, and I’m a perfectionist. It’s safe to say Parveen had her work cut out. ⁠

We are thrilled to say it came together exactly as we had envisioned, and this is due to Parveen’s guidance and advice. We just completed the final piece of the puzzle, which was planting all the plants with Parveen over 3-4 hours. She couldn’t have been more excited to get her hands dirty with us, and project manage the exact plant layout with the specificity of a tape measure. ⁠

The selection of plants surpassed our expectations, and more than enough maintenance information was passed on. We look forward to Parveen coming around every 6-12 months for a garden checkup and seeing it all blossom into its potential.” ⁠

I completed a design to rejuvenate an extensive garden in Camberwell at the start of the month due to an urgency related to some wedding celebrations soon! ⁠
⁠
I’m also excited to have started back on my Burwood design after a long hiatus, and I love the new planting palette I’ve come up with! I can’t wait to show the design to my lovely clients in a couple of weeks. I’ve also started a new project with a beautiful family in Mitcham, so I can’t wait to showcase that!⁠

In addition to my regular design work, I’ve been preparing for a design competition to test my skills. I love the challenge and trying something new! ⁠

✍️Construction - Upper Ferntree Gully ⁠
Prep for construction is starting to happen on one of my favourite projects to date! So, design-wise, things will start slowing down next month to ensure I have enough mental energy to do justice to this one! ⁠

We had a planning meeting earlier in the month to ensure all aspects of the design were covered so there would be no surprises in the future!⁠

I am excited to showcase some of my designs completed between May and July and can’t wait to see them come to life!⁠

Who said design wasn’t fun? It has all the elements I love to enrich my mind and soul—problem-solving, learning, and creatively expressing myself.⁠

While this seems like a random picture, it means a lot to me. It reminds me of my childhood, fond memories, and home.⁠

Growing up, I loved Lat’s work - a famous cartoonist in Malaysia and would devour every comic he published and wrote!⁠
⁠
It was super funny, sometimes contentious, but more importantly, entirely relatable. It brought a massive smile and a lot of laughter afterwards—something I could share with my dad and have a good time enjoying the cartoons with him.⁠
⁠
If I had a choice of sculpture in my garden, it would be a caricature from Lat. It would probably not be this exact one, but I have quite a few in mind! ⁠
⁠
Perhaps a strange choice, you’d think, as the usual appeal would be of a modern art piece or a graceful body of work, but they would be less meaningful to me and not as evocative unless they also make me smile or laugh!⁠
⁠
I am a little saddened that I found this near Little India in the KL CBD, which is not really where his work should (in my view) be prominently displayed. It seemed like an afterthought, and although there were more caricatures along the short street, I felt a little disappointed that there weren’t more, or, I suppose, not as “grand”. ⁠
⁠
His work should be displayed more prominently and installed in hot spots like the “Bukit Bintang” area, attracting both locals and tourists. ⁠
⁠
